Toll plaza contractors swindle NHA of Rs 1720m NAB directs NHA to cancel toll plazas tenders





 

KARACHI (INP): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to cancel the tenders of the toll plazas opened on Wednesday.
According to details, NAB through a written communiqu� has asked NHA to stop proceeding on allotting toll plazas against the rules and regulations.
The authority was of the view that NHA has neglected the technical aspects in tenders of the toll plazas while people of choice were been awarded the contracts


Toll plazas’ contractors have allegedly committed embezzlement of millions of rupees as fines.

Misappropriation of hundreds of millions rupees also has been found in the audit of the National and Motorway police.
 

It has been revealed in the annual report of the Auditor General that officials and employees have allegedly embezzled millions of rupees from toll plazas situated at Highways under the guise of fines and penalties.
 
Contractors have not paid Rs 546 million to toll plazas. Apart from this, more than 50,000 overloaded trucks were let to go without fie which has caused loss worth Rs 610 million to national exchequer.





 

Apart from this, the NADRA also has ceased hundreds of millions rupees of Electronic Toll Plaza System. It was also said in the report that the NHA has also committed criminal negligence for recovery of due charges as it could not recover Rs 410 million from Daewoo company.
